Samantha Rush has joined the Darlington Community to teach seventh- and eighth-grade history and coach middle school girls' basketball.
“I am looking forward to meeting my students and their families and getting involved in the Darlington Community,” Rush said. “My philosophy as an educator is that learning is FUN!! My goal is to transfer this to my students by using a variety of of activities in my class that challenge students and at the same time caters to every student’s learning style.”
Rush holds a B.S. in Education from Shorter College and multiple Georgia Educator Certifications, including Gifted; Behavior Science, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, grades 6-12; Special Education General Curriculum, grades P-12; and Special Education Social Science Cognitive Level P-12.
She has 14 years of experience teaching social studies at the middle and high school levels at Cedartown High School, Pepperell High School, and Pepperell Middle School. Her coaching experience spans much of her professional career, including time as assistant women’s basketball coach at Oglethorpe University; varsity and junior varsity girls' basketball coach at Cedartown High School; and middle school boys' basketball coach at Pepperell Middle School.
“I have always been very passionate about the learning process whether it was in the classroom or in the athletic arena,” Rush said. “The positive energy I feel in the classroom and on the court is indescribable and I knew that I wanted to transfer that to others.
“As a coach, I enjoy getting to know my student-athletes, finding out their strengths and weaknesses, and watching them develop over time and accomplish things they never thought possible,” she continued. “Athletics provided me with many opportunities and taught me many life lessons I look forward to sharing this with my student-athletes.”
When she’s not in the classroom or on the basketball court, Rush enjoys spending time with her husband, Don, and their children, Mackay (‘24) and Sidney (‘26). They especially love attending sporting events and exploring the outdoors as a family.
