Jonathan and Jennifer Broome have joined the Darlington Community, relocating to Rome from Villa Rica, Ga. Jonathan will serve as director of instrumental music and Jennifer will be band director for grades 4-8. They have two daughters who are both attending Darlington this year; Bethany is in first grade and Anna is in kindergarten.
Jonathan Broome comes to Darlington with more than a decade of experience in music education, serving most recently as director of bands at Fairplay Middle School in Douglasville, Ga. He has also worked with a variety of summer instrumental programs and performed professionally. Broome is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, and the National Band Association.
“As a child, I learned to play my instrument in the Salvation Army band. I had great teachers and mentors who inspired me to learn and grow as a musician. During college, I had the opportunity to work as an instructor in music conservatory programs and discovered my passion for music education. After more than a decade of teaching, I am still excited about my job,” Jonathan said. “I want to help students become the best they can be.”
He holds a B.M. in Music Education from the University of West Georgia and an M.M. in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. He also holds Georgia PSC Certification in P-12 Music Education.
Jennifer Broome has 14 years of experience in music education, most recently serving as band director at Northpoint Christian Academy in Carrollton, Ga. She also teaches private lessons and is owner and director of the Sounds of Summer Band Camp for middle school students in Villa Rica.
“I believe all children have the capacity to learn, and my job to cultivate within them a love for learning in all aspects of life,” Jennifer said. “I am excited about teaching the students the skill of playing an instrument. This is something that will open up opportunities for them and something they enjoy for a lifetime.”
She holds a B.S. in Music Education from Toccoa Falls College and has completed M.M.Ed. coursework at VanderCook College of Music. She also holds Georgia PSC Certification in P-12 Music Education. Jennifer is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the Georgia Music Educator’s Association.
“We are thrilled to have Jonathan and Jennifer Broome join our fine arts faculty,” stated Kim Tunnell, director of fine arts. “Together and separately they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in music education that will lead and inspire students to be the best musicians they can be.”
