Upper School biology students recently created a project using Aurasma. This web 2.0 tool helps users utilize augmented reality (AR) to turn everyday objects, images, and places into new, interactive opportunities.
The biology classes were learning about the plant and animal cells, and were instructed to create real world examples of cells and their parts (i.e. a football game would have a coach to represent the cell nucleus and the stadium would be the cell membrane).
Students used Google Slides to explain their cell parts, created an iMovie ( including the slides), and then uploaded the final product to Aurasma. Using a trigger picture, the fifth-grade students were able to activate the videos on their iPads to learn more about animal and plant cells.
The fifth-grade students then colored an animal cell worksheet downloaded from Quivervision. Once they downloaded the Quiver app on their iPads, students were able to make their animal cell coloring sheets come to life. This app also provides quizzes to assist with learning the parts of an animal cell!
This tech buddy activity proved to be a beneficial learning experience!
