Welcome to the first of many Darlington School Soccer Academy blogs! As you may know, we spent the weekend before Thanksgiving in North Carolina for the Capital Area Soccer League (CASL) showcase, where we won two games and tied the third.
Our first game was against CSL FC Fury. The game started slow from both sides, but a second-half goal from Mimi Sarkodie assisted by myself, the first assist I have ever had by the way, secured the 1-0 victory. For our big victory lunch, what could be better than mall food? We went to the food court in a nearby mall to have lunch and walk around.
We had some free time after lunch and decided to go to watch some soccer (because we don't get enough of it already!) We watched South Carolina play Seattle University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at UNC Chapel Hill. It was a great experience and it was fun to watch what the next level of soccer is really like.
Our second game was against CASL Black. The first goal came from Mimi in the 13th minute. Going into the second half, we were up 1-0. The other team got a free kick just a little outside the box and scored. Then, Brookie Wallace came up big for the team by scoring the game winner off an assist from Cat Jorgensen.
Our third game was against FC Richmond. It was a hard-fought game with chances for both teams; however, the final result was 0-0.
This first Player of the Week goes to Mimi Sarkodie! With two goals this tournament, Mimi has made a huge impact on the field. She is a junior from Dayton, Ohio.
