5th Grade Collaborative Art Project

In response to the "My Place" prompt presented by the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia, each fifth-grader at Darlington School was encouraged to contemplate the many ways they connect and contribute to their home, school, community, nation, and world. Students were then asked to use symbols and sketches to represent their personal connections and contributions on a blank puzzle piece. Each puzzle piece was then arranged into a cohesive mural. When placed together, the puzzle pieces create a cohesive mural. The colors on our mural seamlessly blend from gold to red to purple which represents the colors included on our school’s crest. This blending is an expression of the idea that, while we may have different interests, we’re all connected through our dedication to the mission of our school: wisdom more than knowledge, service beyond self, and honor above everything.

We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this project as it provided an engaging way for students to visualize how important they are. Many times, students feel that relevance and importance come with age. However, this project allowed each boy and girl to see how important they already are! It also inspired them to seek out additional ways to be involved in their community. Thank you for the inspiration and for your continued support of education and the arts.

We owe a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Kopp for collaborating with Mrs. Fine and Mrs. Cline throughout the project! This project would not have been possible without her creativity and artistic direction.
