Before the world shifted, the Advancement Office had planned to share senior spotlights on some of the faces of the Class of 2020 and what Darlington means to them. These students represent everything Darlington’s faculty and staff work tirelessly for - our future alumni.
There has never been a better time to feature our seniors - they deserve the spotlight as the spring they so looked forward to has shifted. This series will feature several Darlington seniors who will share their favorite things about Darlington and also how they are adjusting to this new world of distance learning.
We hope you will enjoy getting to know these seniors better and will make a gift to honor the Class of 2020, who need our support now more than ever. To make a gift to the 2019-2020 Darlington Fund please click here.
How have you met the challenge of distance learning?
In the beginning, it was a little challenging to get adjusted to distance learning. Still, the faculty and staff have made tremendous efforts to make the transition as smooth as possible, and it has been effective. I believe that in this situation we are in, the style of distance learning Darlington introduced allows for the continuation of studies without being too overwhelming, which I appreciate.

I am involved in all three student publications (Jabberwokk, Inkslinger, Darlingtonian), the Swim Team, and The Darlington Players.
If you are in sports who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach is Coach Hadaway. She has been an excellent addition to the Swim program. With her dedication and knowledge of the sport, it has allowed for this season to be one of the most successful seasons we've had.
If you are involved in fine arts what is your favorite role and why?
I am involved with all three of the Student Publications, but my favorite role would have to be serving as the Editor-in-Chief for the Inkslinger. The reason for this is because it has allowed me the opportunity to improve my leadership skills, time management skills, and overall knowledge of the process of creating a publication. These are all skills that I plan to use in my future career, and I am so thankful that Darlington allows students the opportunity to explore their passions.
What is your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus would probably have to be the Media Arts room. The Media Arts room is where I spend the majority of my time working on various publications, and it is a place for me to continue to develop my passion.
Who is your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Ms. Merritt. She is the adviser of the three publications that I work on. She is the one person who encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and allowed me the opportunity to become a part of such an amazing journalism program, which I am forever thankful that Darlington has.
Where do you want to go to college and what do you want to do?
I will be attending Georgia Southern University in the fall. I will be majoring in Public Relations, and I want to work in the media industry.

The Darlington Fund raises $1 million every year. If you were given $10,000 what program would you want to give it to and why?
I would give this $10,000 toward the journalism program at Darlington. Recently, our publications have gained national attention, and to continue to produce the quality publications each year, I would love to put this money toward updated equipment along with flexible seating for the Media Arts room.
We have 1,500 donors who give to Darlington every year sure you have a great experience - in 10 words or less how would you thank them?
Thank you for giving Darlington students countless opportunities.
What is your favorite thing about Darlington and why is that important to you?
