The Upper School Design Thinking class engineered paper roller coasters and shared them with pre-K and kindergarten students. Cooperative groups worked together to create the roller coasters; they had to include a sharp and wide curve, funnel, loop, merge, and straight tracks. This design challenge was challenging because the base of the roller coaster had to be sturdy enough to hold all the pieces. The "passengers" were marbles. We decided to take the coasters to the Smith Smarties and Deaton Darlings so they could try each ride. We left the coasters with them so they can add more tracks and decorate them!
