Darlington to bring ALICE active shooter response training to Rome

Darlington School and the ALICE Training® Institute have teamed up to bring ALICE Instructor Certification Training to Rome, Ga., on May 29-30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course, which is open to law enforcement and other community groups, will be held on campus at Darlington's Thatcher Hall.

“One of our enduring goals at Darlington is for our community to be as safe as possible,” said Head of School Brent Bell. “When we became aware that ALICE Instructor Certification Training was not offered in our area of the state, we felt it important to see if we could step up as a host site. I hope that community groups near and far will join us for this course in May.”

ALICE Instructor Certification Training is a valuable course for law enforcement, schools, universities, hospitals, businesses, and places of worship. Completing the ALICE Instructor Certification course provides individuals with certification in ALICE proactive options-based responses, preparing them to take those same strategies back to their own organizations and communities. Additionally, registrants will gain access to exclusive ALICE resources and ongoing support.

ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate. ALICE Training, a solution of Navigate360, prepares civilians with life skills to increase survivability in the face of violence. The goal of the ALICE program is to empower individuals to participate in their own survival in the gap between when a violent situation begins and when law enforcement arrives.

"This training addresses the fallacies of a one-size-fits-all response plan by explaining the truths and realities of violent critical incidents," explained Head of House Joe Pitts, site coordinator for Darlington. "Through training and empowerment, citizens can apply the ALICE proactive response options and improve their chances of survival in any environment where they are confronted by an active shooter or violent intruder. ALICE strategies are taught with a trauma-informed approach and recommended by many federal and state official guidelines."

The price of the training is $749. Click here for more detailed information about the course and to register.

Prerequisite
Prior to your two-day class, you must complete the required ALICE Introduction for Instructors e-Learning course, which is an included prerequisite with this training. Within five minutes of your registration for ALICE Instructor Certification Training, you will receive an email invitation to set up an account to access this e-Learning course. This will give you the basic knowledge and foundation to prepare you for class. The course will take approximately one hour to complete.

ALICE Certified Instructor Role
Completion of this training program allows you to become an ALICE Certified Instructor (ACI). As an ACI, you will receive the necessary training and materials to conduct ALICE overview and refresher presentations and lead the hands-on portion of training in the ALICE Blended delivery model. In the ALICE Blended model, user-level training participants learn the ALICE strategies through the ALICE Basic e-Learning course. Then these strategies are reinforced and supported through hands-on training provided by you, an ACI. ALICE Instructor Certification lasts for three years, aligns with the education year, and is renewed online by successfully completing an eLearning course and post eLearning assessment. The recertification fee is included in your course fee.

Permitted Uses
Through the ALICE Blended delivery model (e-Learning + hands-on training), ACIs may only provide training to their own organization, and law enforcement officers may train public entities, within their jurisdiction, while on duty.

ALICE is aligned with recommendations from the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Health and Human Services, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Department of Education, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and many state government agencies.
