One century ago, Darlington opened its doors to students from all over Georgia, then the country, and around the world. Since then, our tradition of boarding is a vital part of Darlington’s identity and part of what makes us so unique.
We asked our boarding alumni to share one word that comes to mind when they reflect on their boarding experience, and among the words they shared are life-changing, empowering, great, broadening, supportive, and many more. No matter if you were a day or boarding student, these words and the connections made at Darlington mean something to all of us!
We have been honored to highlight these words in everything we have done this year - from the last issue of Darlington Magazine, to Darlington Connects blogs and podcasts, to celebrations with our current resident students, and in our appeals for this year’s Darlington Fund.
Connection.
This is the word Chief Advancement Officer and four-year boarder Julie (Wilson) Lucas (’97), uses to describe her experience at Darlington. Julie is married to Sam (’97), a classmate from Rome, and they are the proud parents of day students Hudson (’31) and Wilson (’28).
“My husband and I have always been surrounded by Darlington connections, and we are proud to see our alma mater continue so many traditions we know and love while continuing to create new ones,” she shared. “Darlington will always be my home away from home, and there are students and alumni currently living in 60 countries and 50 states who likely feel the same.”
The Darlington Fund supports this place, our second home. Every gift to the school helps create a meaningful experience for all of our students.
We hope you will consider giving back to this home for so many by making a gift to the 2023-2024 Darlington Fund by clicking here.
