A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.
Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.
Let’s get to know Mimi Nwani, a four-year boarding student from Lagos, Nigeria, whose Senior Ventures project focuses on researching the challenges black women encounter in the legal profession.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus would be my dorm, Thornwood House. Being in Cooper my freshman year and moving to Thornwood my sophomore year, I have grown to love this dorm as my own home. I moved with Mrs Bruce from Cooper to T-Wood as well, and she has been my second mother at Dar. So, my favorite place on campus is my dorm, where I can have fun with friends I see every day, study for my tests with no distractions, and be comfortable in my own space.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Mr Allen. He has made learning psychology so interesting. Even though we have quizzes every class, which may seem like a lot, with the way we are taught, it honestly does not feel like too heavy of a workload. As someone who is pretty shy, I also feel very comfortable talking to Mr. Allen.
What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is how the environment is balanced. Darlington encourages a fun place where one can learn, which I appreciate. At Darlington, I learn different things every day, and I notice the effort the school puts in for boarding students to have fun like activities over the weekend. I also really like how everyone on campus is friendly and warm.
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
Our Senior trip to Camp Skyline. I had never been to a camp before so I was unsure what to expect from this trip, especially because we could not use our phones. I was a bit stressed at first because I have my phone with me at all times, even if I am not currently using it. However, the trip was much more fun than I expected. We had activities during the day, which were extremely fun and made time fly by. I also stayed in a room with my friends, and we spent all night talking and catching up. I really enjoyed the trip and it was much better than I expected.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have grown to be more confident and extroverted. Coming to Darlington as a 14-year-old, I was extremely shy and never spoke up in class; however, I am now more confident. I am still shy, but not as shy as I was in ninth grade, and I speak up and share my thoughts on things. I am also more self-motivated. Because I lived with my parents in Nigeria before coming to Darlington, I was dependent on them and accomplished activities in school to make them happy. Now, I am more independent and I do things for me. I am motivated to do things because I want to be successful, not solely because I want my parents to be impressed.
What is your dream job?
