A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

In this #SeniorSpotlight get to know Siji Soetan, a two-year boarding student from Lagos, Nigeria, who is highly involved in the arts.

When you think of high school, what song comes to mind?

“Down” by Chloe x Halle

What's your favorite show to binge on Netflix?

“Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated”

What house are you a member of?

Moser House

What are you involved in at Darlington?

Theater, Band, Concert Choir, The Darlington Diamonds, Opportunity Ambassador for The College Board

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?

It's difficult to choose between the things that I do, but probably acting because it was how I found a really tight-knit community here at Darlington and it's where I met many of my closest friends.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?

The benches in front of the library because I have made a LOT of funny memories with my friends there.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?

Mrs. Inman because she never got tired of reading over my college essays. Mrs. Haynes because it was fun talking to her when nobody else came to chemistry office hours during quarantine. Mr. Shorey for all the Sunday nights I went to disturb him with calculus questions while he was on duty. Mrs. Sikes for always having a kind word.

What's your favorite thing about Darlington?

100% the people.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.

Choreographing the Moser House’s Lip Sync for RUMPUS in my first year here. (RUMPUS is a weekend-long competition between all the dorms.)

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?

I have developed so much more confidence in myself and my ideas. I feel as though what I say has merit even when I don't feel 100% certain that I am correct. I've generally become a more confident person and I'm better able to stand up for myself.

Where do you want to go to college and what is your dream job?

I would love to attend Brown University and my dream job would be working as a lawyer.
