September’s Favorite Picks

I love the opportunity to read to my students and bring a story to life! Over the course of a month we read several picture books together and I thought it would be fun to vote on our class favorites.

The Smith Smarties came to an easy consensus and with an almost unanimous decision voted on "Bark, George" by Jules Feiffer. George is a little puppy that just can't bark despite his mother's persistent requests. Each time she tells George to bark he produces an unexpected animal sound ranging from "meow" to "moo". Following a trip to the vet the reader finds out the mystery behind George's condition.  Can he be "cured"? If you delight in silly fun make sure to read "Bark, George" as it does not disappoint!

Warning! The Deaton Darlings and Horah's Hoot Owls both chose the grossest fairy tale ever written!  "Who's the Grossest of Them All?" by Susan McElroy Montanari & Jake Parker is a competition between two vile creatures, Goblin and Troll. Both are certain that they are the nastiest and most horrible creature in the forest, but in order to prove which one of them is the most disgusting, they decide to ask some unsuspecting people for their opinion. Goblin and Troll both get one vote each and so for a tie breaker they ask a little girl with a big attitude.  Unlike the others before her, she is not afraid of Goblin and Troll and with a bit of a twist, the story ends with an unexpected winner.  Let's just say the little girl with the big attitude may need to consult with her doctor about a potential sinus infection! If you enjoy reading fairy tales or books with just a slight gross factor, you should read "Who's the Grossest of Them All?"

Well, I hope you enjoy checking out the students' top picks for the month.  I look forward to sharing with you next time our favorites for the month of October. Happy reading!
