A Thanksgiving Reflection

As Thanksgiving approaches, like many, I am taking the opportunity to reflect on my heart of thankfulness. In truth, I have much to be thankful for in my life.

Times of joy and times of sorrow have molded me with some help along the way into the person I am today. Through my life experiences I bring to the table a perspective that is uniquely mine, as your experiences create a perspective that is uniquely yours. My hope is that I will always look for the good and find reasons to be thankful. Maybe even along the way I can inspire and help others to do the same.

This school year has been a new beginning for me and a perfect example of something I am incredibly thankful for in my life. The opportunity to work, teach and learn in ELA-8's Joanne G. Yancey Library is a gift.

As I have mentioned to many already, my position is the perfect blend of administrative-type duties paired with the joy of working with children. I am thankful for being stretched and learning new things every day. I am thankful for time spent reading to children, helping them make connections and encouraging them to grow their young minds. What a privilege to even hope to have a tiny role in the development of a child and to fuel their love of books! Getting daily hugs and seeing their happy faces is just an added bonus that makes my heart smile.

So for this Thanksgiving I am reminded of my past blessings, my current ones—and I look in anticipation for the blessings yet to come.

Gratitude and thankfulness is a state of mind that reflects the heart. My hope is that I will always be mindful to recognize and accept the blessings chosen just for me. Then and only then, will I be able to impact the precious ones entrusted to my care for moments upon moments each day.
