Rome News-Tribune article about Darlington's win on Monday in the Class AA semifinals over the Rabun County Wildcats. The Tigers won both games at home, sending them on the road to the state championship in this weekend's first game.
In Game 1 of the semifinals, it was senior Burton Dulaney's grand slam with bases loaded that gave the Tigers a strong lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Darlington ultimately emerged victorious over the Wildcats 5-2.
In the second game, junior Jake Maxwell hit another decisive home run in the top of the third inning as the Tigers were already ahead. After another strong performance on the home field, Darlington took the second game 12-2.
The Tigers now stand two wins away from the Class AA state title.
Darlington will play an away game at Wesleyan for the championship on Saturday at 3 p.m. Darlington will play a second game against Wesleyan on Monday at 1 p.m., immediately followed by a third should a final game be necessary to determine the Class AA championship team.
