The Art of RUMPUS

I participated in RUMPUS this year in more ways than in years past. Being on campus for several events, I realized more and more just how talented and skilled our students are and the many ways that they share their gifts in our day-to-day classes and activities, and especially in something like RUMPUS.

So, this year I found that the elements of art and music were in almost everything that happened on campus during RUMPUS. My list below reflects how our students shared their natural talents through many elements of the performing and visual arts.

I saw and heard…….

Rhythm in all of the house chants of Re-ge-ster, T-Wood, CPR, SMB, Neville and Moser.

Creativity in the t-shirt designs, each house banner that hung in Van Es Arena, Cooper's "Double Dutch Bus" performance at LipSync, and the sidewalk drawings from RUMPUS Relay.

Synchronization in every LipSync performance, each event as individuals and teams worked through trial and error and continued to find another way.

Melody in Mr. Camp’s solo in Summerbell's LipSync performance.

Harmony
in the music made by our instrumental students.

Balance as brother and sister houses came together to support each other.

Texture wavered between thick and thin as one group chanted and passed it along to the next, but when all found one thing to chant together, the thickness was overwhelming.

Tempo and Beat in the steady beat of that bass drum and the chanting of our students in preparation for every event.
