First-grade teacher Rachel Harrison is a treasured faculty member at Darlington School. Her smile is contagious, and her personality is a gift to all of us.
Students in Rachel’s room are always hard at work. They publish many stories throughout the year and reading is integrated into every subject, including math.
She also finds creative ways for her students to learn by doing -- creating fun experiential and project-based learning opportunities for them throughout the year. Mrs. Harrison only accepts the best from her students, whether they are learning to read and write or living the mission of Darlington.
You may have heard the names Captain Rodney and John David Gary Harrison.
Captain Rodney, a pirate puppet and class mascot, is a special “teaching assistant.” John David, a tarantula, is their eight-legged friend. These are two beloved members of her class, and first-graders enjoy including them in all that they do. They even had a
birthday party for John David in December! By having these two Harrison Heroes in her classroom, Rachel enriches the learning experience of our students.
G
uests always have an open invitation to join in on the learning in Mrs. Harrison's class and I would advise you to stop by sometime. Most importantly, Rachel's students feel safe to take chances, make mistakes and always feel loved!
First grade is a crucial time for young children to learn how to read and write. When students feel loved, safe and happy, learning will take place. Rachel, you are a hero to your students and to Darlington!
