On Friday, May 18, the seventh-grade class went on an adventure around Rome! This unique culminating activity summed up many of the things we've been learning throughout the year while allowing students to make real-world connections in their own community.
Our morning consisted of seeing some of the animals and animal habitats the students have been studying in science at Ridge Ferry Park's ECO Center. We also put our math skills to use in a Wal-Mart activity that definitely got us crunching numbers as we calculated the percentage of discount in rollback prices.
Lunch was a fiesta as we ordered in Spanish at a local Mexican restaurant. We also put our math skills to use again as we calculated the much deserved tip for our servers.
After lunch, we headed to downtown Rome to take in the sights. We learned about the history of the Capitoline Wolf statue that sits outside the Rome City Auditorium and toured the beautiful Historic DeSoto Theater.
Overall, the students enjoyed a fantastic opportunity to make connections between the “stuff” we learn in school each day and the world that exists outside the gates of Darlington School.
