Darlington sixth-grader Myles Englis was recently selected to the Georgia Olympic Development Program (ODP) soccer team. He and eighth-grader Connor McWhorter are two of only four Romans to make this team at any age division.

The ODP is a national identification and development program for high-level players which identifies and develops youth players throughout the country to represent their state association, region and the United States in soccer competition.

According to Chad Liddle, Darlington School Soccer Academy director and Region III ODP staff member, Englis and McWhorter made the state pool of approximately 33 of the best players in Georgia born in their calendar years.

As a member of Darlington School Soccer Academy, a year-round program for serious athletes, McWhorter and Englis have competed against top U17 and U18 club teams from all over the country, as well as colleges.

“It is great to see a young man’s work ethic pay off. Myles is a tireless worker and a born leader who is sure to be an impact player in the Soccer Academy for years to come,” said Liddle. “His ODP accomplishment is proof to all players that hard work and dedication pays off.”

Englis is the son of Dr. Judith Tutin of Rome, Ga., and Dr. Basil George Englis, also of Rome.
