With 10 days left in the Georgia's legislative session, Darlington's Miller family was invited to visit the State Capitol and the House Chamber by Rep. Katie Dempsey of District 13. The day started with a very special morning order on the House Floor by Rep. Dempsey recognizing Emmett (fourth grade) and Shepherd (first grade) for their bravery and tolerance of living with Type 1 diabetes as well as their family's fundraising efforts toward a cure.
Emmett has lived with Type 1 diabetes for nine years, and Shepherd has lived with it for four years. Emmett and Shepherd are the sons of Anna (Sargent) ('01) and Chris Miller.
It was a full-circle day for the family, as Anna worked for Rep. Dempsey in her early campaign years and went on to work for the late House Speaker David Ralston as the house floor coordinator, house photographer, and interim director of communications before becoming a mom. The family visited the Capitol on March 11, Emmett's tenth birthday, and the tenth anniversary of Anna's last legislative session after Emmett made his arrival early! After their recognition by Rep. Dempsey and Emmett's birthday shoutout from House Speaker John Burns, the Millers spent time with Rep. Dempsey, Anna's best friend and House Messenger Betsy Theroux, and House Speaker Jon Burns.
It was a day to remember for the Miller family!
