The Purple Tie Tiger Tailgate hit another home run this year, raising just over $405,000 for Darlington’s four parent organizations: Pre-K to 8 Tiger Pride, Upper School Tiger Pride, Athletic Booster Club and Fine Arts Booster Club.
This year’s event had over 400 attendees, including current parents, teachers, alumni, parents of alumni, and grandparents. Guests came from seven countries and 12 states, illustrating the global nature of the school community.
“Our ‘Favorite Things’ theme really resonated with our community,” said Julie (Wilson) Lucas (’97), chief advancement officer. “People shared what they love, from vacation homes to baskets of their favorite things, to support Darlington. Our community donated 171 auction items and had over 400 bidders and 42 donors raise their paws. What a night!”
Everyone enjoyed music by KAMP Band and being entertained by beloved alumnus auctioneer Lou Dempsey (’87, LD ’17). They also had a wonderful time participating in the online and live auctions, Raise the Paw for improvements to the McCallie-Kennedy Student Center, and being a part of our reverse raffle.
“We had a fantastic time at Purple Tie Tailgate!” said Tashia Twyman, Parents Council president and president of the Athletic Booster Club. “It was a perfect blend of laughter, community spirit, and great memories. Many thanks to all of the amazing volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to make it a success! Your hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment made all the difference.”
Head of School Brent Bell added that the Purple Tie Tailgate is always a great way to kick off the school year. “Personally, I love to see the connections between families new to the community and those that have been involved a long time,” he said. “Thank you to everyone who made the evening a success.”
