Day #SeniorSpotlight: Sara Botwinik

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Sara Botwinik, a five-year day student from Atlanta who expertly balances her involvement in athletics and fine arts.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Friendship, Honor, Knowledge

What song reminds you of high school?
“Glory Days” by Bruce Springsteen

What house are you a member of?
Regester

What are you involved in at Darlington?
Softball, Orchestra, tennis, theater, Chemistry Club, Arts Council

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
During softball, Coach Larry pushed me to become a better player and person.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
In Orchestra, I love getting new music pieces to sight read through for the first time. It may be chaos, but everyone is so focused and excited to learn.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The Learning Center because it is such a unique place on campus. I always feel welcome whether I want to do homework, read, sleep, knit, or chat with a teacher.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mrs. Luitwieler is my favorite teacher at Darlington because she has been my learning specialist since freshman year. She is always open to talk and gives very wise and knowledgeable advice that always seems to be the right solution or the perfect anecdote.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is the friends I have made along the way in all activities, whether it was sports, academics, theater, or clubs.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
Here I was able to try out different sports and clubs even though I was new to it. Being able to feel welcome as a newcomer in any field of academics or athletics has helped me experience and join different activities that I never thought I would be able to do before.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
At Darlington, I've been able to get out of my shell and be the person I always admired to be. I can say hi and strike a conversation with so many different people now, whether I know them or not. I credit Darlington for giving me this opportunity to be someone that is responsible, friendly and helpful.

What is your dream job?
Medical researcher and/or Air Force pilot
