My name is Chinelo Okafor, and I have had a profound interest in music for many years now. I like a wide selection of music genres, ranging from R&B, Hip Hop to Afrobeats. For that reason, my Senior Ventures project this year was to pursue my passion for music by creating an EP (Extended Play) album.
This project gave me a chance to work on something that I am proud of, and it opened my eyes to the world of music. I recorded my cover songs in Lagos, Nigeria, in a Dolby Atmos Studio! Our Chorus teacher, Mrs. Johnson, gave me voice lessons, and I practiced with the equipment in the music recording room in school.
The whole process taught me how to be patient and disciplined with my workflow. I want people to understand that music is deeper than what it seems. More goes into it than what people see and it was not until my project that I realized this.
I hope people get inspired by my project and work on something they love! My goal was to record at least three songs and I recorded "All of Me" (Legend), "Set Fire to the Rain" (Adele) and "Someone You Loved" (Capaldi). I am excited and I cannot wait for people to listen!
Senior Ventures is a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement.
