In this episode, Carson Raymond, director of major gifts, chats with Charlotte Baker ('02, LD '22), Gaines Dempsey ('94, LD '22) and Katy (Hatch) Hollingsworth ('93, LD '22) about their experience as recent members of the Leadership Darlington Class of 2022. They reflect on what they learned about the school, how they plan to give back and provide insight for those who might be interested in the Leadership Darlington program.
Charlotte Baker ('02, LD '22) is an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology at Virginia Tech. She has a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion from Appalachian State University, a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Doctor of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Kentucky. Prior to Virginia Tech, Charlotte served as an Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Charlotte resides in Blacksburg, Virginia with her senior dog Callie.
Gaines Dempsey ('94, LD '22) attended the University of Georgia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Real Estate from the Terry College of Business. Dempsey owns and operates Dempsey Appraisal which specializes in commercial real estate in north and west Georgia. He married Amy Holmes Dempsey ('94) in 1999 and they have three daughters: Cade, Callie ('27) and Eloise ('31). The Dempseys are active in the community and are championing the expansion of Java Joy and Extra Special People in Rome.
Katy (Hatch) Hollingsworth ('93, LD '22) is a Senior Vice President and Marketing Account Executive with McGriff Insurance Services’ Executive Risk Advisors. With just shy of 25 years in the insurance industry, she has been a trusted provider of a wide range of Executive and Management Liability coverage solutions. Hollingsworth graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia, earning her Bachelor of Business Administration in Risk Management and Insurance. She and her husband, Charles, reside in Roswell, GA with their ten-year-old daughter, Kathryn, and English Cocker Spaniel, Millie.
