Darlington Connects Program Expanding

Last fall, we launched the Darlington Connects program and have had an overwhelming response. Since then, we have connected with many alumni who have offered to help others by providing networking opportunities, job search assistance, and general advice to others in the Darlington Community. What we learned very quickly is that this program is not just for our alumni. Everyone in our Darlington Community wanted to help! So, we would like to officially invite all of our Darlington alumni, parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, and friends of the school to participate in our Darlington Connects program.

What does this mean? Many things!

  • Are you looking for your first job or to switch careers?
  • Are you willing to offer help to those looking for a job or interested in a certain career?
  • Do you have a cool hobby that you’d like to help others start?
  • Do you have a job and a story to tell that we can share with our Darlington students and community?
  • Do you not know how you can help but want to talk to someone?

So far, we have helped make connections for:

  • Law students with practicing lawyers in different sizes and types of firms
  • A senior in college looking for her first job
  • A young alum looking for a career change
  • Current Darlington students with entrepreneurs, business owners and healthcare professionals
  • And many more...

We are excited to continue to grow this program and hope we can count on your great ideas to do so. Please follow us on our Darlington Connects Linkedin Page and on our Darlington social media pages for updates. Also, we hope you enjoy some of our recent Connects stories below. Every one of these great Tigers would love to connect with you!

Tom Harbin (‘63) - Take a couple of minutes to read about Dr. Harbin. Talk about impressive! He went back to business school while he was working full time as a doctor and has since written four books.

Wax Museum - Mr. McConnell’s idea to use our Darlington connections for this year’s third-grade wax museum truly shows that Darlington is all about supporting each other!

Marie Gordon (‘99, LD’12) - Darlington has a podcast! Also, Marie’s career and Darlington story are very impressive and fun to listen to. This one is on the shorter side, so tune in the next time you’re going a short walk or sitting in traffic!

Sneh Patel (’10) - Check out Sneh’s blog. Impressive! He is an aircraft performance engineer at Gulfstream Aerospace and has really great advice!

Doug Whatley (’02) - Doug has an awesome career path and a lot of great advice to share. “You can’t be depressed and grateful at the same time,” he said. “Life is a whole lot better than you might think if you just change your focus.” Wow! Gave me chills!

Joyce (Riddle) Neely (’62T) - Joyce owns her own winery. Need I say more?! Even while busy with this amazing business, Joyce has been one of Darlington’s top volunteers over the years.

Kris Kim (’01) - Kris is someone who could make I.T. fun for all and I personally join him as a member of the Mr. Buice Fan Club. Check out the cool things Kris is doing.

Ben McElrath (’02, LD ’15) & Alice Barngrover (’21) - Full-circle connections in this one. Ben is with Marglen Industries and Alice is a senior working on her Senior Ventures project. A must read to show how impactful participating in the Darlington Connects program can be!

Have I convinced you yet? I hope you will consider supporting our Darlington Connects program through ideas, connecting with students, or others Tigers. Simply email connect@darlingtonschool.org and a member of our Advancement Team will be in touch.

Go Tigers!
