It is with sadness that we share with you news of the passing of Jerry Hubbard, a business and community leader in Floyd County and Life Trustee of Darlington School.

Jerry embodied Service Beyond Self by giving consistently throughout his life to the Rome community and Darlington School. In 2000, Jerry and his wife, Patsy, in memory of their daughter, Amanda (’78), established the Amanda Hubbard de Costerd (’78) Scholarship, which has helped many students attend Darlington. He served on the Board of Trustees, as treasurer of the Board of Trustees, on the Design for Darlington Campaign Committee, was a member of the J. Daniel Hanks Jr. (’27) Heritage Society, and was named a Life Trustee in 1999.

Jim McCallie, former Darlington president, said “Jerry had a wonderful financial mind and had a grasp of everything that Darlington did. He was invaluable as a Trustee and was wonderful at balancing the budget. He had a remarkable capacity for seeing everything as a big picture in the way that we needed to see it. He was a mastermind when it came to finances.”

Jerry and Patsy are the parents of the late Amanda (Hubbard) de Costerd (’78); Clint Hubbard (’81), married to Laurie Hubbard of Rome; and Patricia Hubbard (‘86), married to Jonathan Glidden of Atlanta. They have seven grandchildren, including Darlington alumnae Allison Hubbard (‘11), Chris Hubbard (‘13) and Sarah Cait Hubbard (‘14).

We are so grateful for Jerry’s leadership and service to the school and for the legacy he leaves through his children and grandchildren.

Thank you, Jerry, for a life well-lived and for your service and commitment to the greater good.
