Beau Griffith (’05): Beau and his wife, Katherine, who is also a veteran and former F/A-18 Super Hornet 'Naval Flight Officer'.

Veterans Day was Nov. 11, 2020, and we are honored to recognize the veterans in our Darlington family. Throughout the month of November, we’re highlighting our veterans in several blogs and on social media. We hope that you follow along all month and help us honor all of our veterans.

Today’s blog features experiences from alumni from the 2000s.

John Lovell (’00) served as a United States Army Ranger. John shared a quote by G.K Chesterton, “War is not ‘the best way of settling differences;’ it is the only way of preventing their being settled for you.”

Mikala Glanton (’02) served as a Sergeant in the United States Army from September 2010 - February 2015. From 2012-2013 he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Mikala’s wife and both of his parents served in the military as well.

Andrew Gay (’04) served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps from May 2008 - July 2019. Andrew shared about being a Marine and his service. “Marines are special types of people who always do what they say they're going to do, always try to be the best, and always look out for each other. Aside from working with some of the best people I'll ever know, I enjoyed the opportunities to travel. In 11 years as a Marine, I lived in, or traveled to, Virginia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Australia and Germany.”

Beau Griffith (’05) served as a Lieutenant (O-3) in the United States Navy from 2009-2019.

Mack McCann (’10) has served since January of 2015 in the US Navy and is an E-5 (Petty Officer 2nd Class). He has completed one deployment in the Arabian Gulf. Mack shared, “I’m currently stationed in Rota, Spain, where I have been fortunate enough to reconnect with fellow alumni Pepe Ivars (’09).”
