Darlington will officially kick off its 116th school year with a socially distanced Opening Convocation on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 9:30 a.m. at Chris Hunter Stadium.

"This is a special time for Darlington's students and faculty to come together as one school, and we feel very fortunate to have a place on campus to safely hold this ceremony," said Head of School Brent Bell. "We will be using all areas of the stadium in order to have a socially distanced event, and we ask that everyone please wear a face covering upon arrival."

The school will live stream the event at www.darlingtonschool.org/convocation so that students who are distance learning and families who cannot be here in person will be able to participate in this rich tradition that involves students of all ages. In addition, a photo gallery will be posted on the school website in the days following the event.

The ceremony will include the Presentation of Flags, a Welcome Address by the Head of School, two student speakers, the Alma Mater, and the Ringing of the School Bell.

Pre-K to 8 parents should drop their children off via car line for temperature checks at the normal time. Pre-K to 2 students will be bused over for the ceremony, and students in grades 3-8 will cross over from the main campus. Please note that law enforcement will be closing Cave Spring Road for a period of time between 9 and 9:30 a.m. so that the students and teachers can cross safely and will do so again after the ceremony so they can return to Thatcher Hall.

Parents planning to attend the event in person should use Darlington Drive to travel to campus and park in the Huffman Athletic Center’s main parking lot. Please enter the stadium from that side and sit behind the stage in the home bleachers.

"On behalf of everyone at Darlington, I thank you for your partnership and look forward to a great year together," said Bell.

In the case of rain, Opening Convocation would be moved to Sept. 11 at the same time and location.
