Reflecting on Leadership Darlington 2020

Before the world locked down, we were privileged to have 24 amazing alumni return to campus for our 8th Leadership Darlington retreat.   It was a wonderful class filled with interesting, smart and talented alumni spanning five decades with graduates from the class of 1974 to 2014. I continue to be impressed by the people that apply and attend Leadership Darlington. Their applications are filled with evidence that they are all confident contributors in their chosen careers and communities and their enthusiasm and love for this place inspires me!

Over the past eight years Leadership Darlington alumni have stepped up and into some pretty impressive volunteer roles for Darlington. Here are just a few:

  • 47 new alumni council members
  • 12 new members of the Board of Trustees
  • 7 new class agents
  • 3 Distinguished Alumnus award recipients

These are some pretty remarkable numbers!  We are proud of the leadership and service our Leadership Darlington alumni have exhibited over the past eight years and can’t wait to see what LD’20 alumni and future Leadership Darlington groups will do for Darlington in the years to come.  Here are a couple of testimonials from this year’s class.

“I am very humble to be a graduate of Darlington School. If it was not for Darlington, I could not have become who I am today. Darlington allowed me to achieve many goals among other things beyond thoughts I never had. If any alumni feel the same way, you need to attend Darlington Leadership Retreat. Darlington Leadership Retreat will have you better understand everything you appreciated about Darlington and ways you can help preserve the Darlington ways for the future generations to come.” - Richard Song ('85, LD'20)

“Leadership Darlington offered the opportunity to learn more about the operation side of the school, and how everything fits together from a business and education perspective. I was exposed to a tremendous amount of information and left with a much greater understanding of the mission of Darlington. The weekend also helped re-ignite my love for this school, and desire to be involved with the future success of Darlington.” - Patrick Wilson (’08, LD’20)
