Avery Cypress (‘14) has returned to the Darlington Community as assistant director of boarding admissions for the school. As a member of the school’s enrollment management team, he will focus on the recruitment and retention efforts of Upper School international and domestic boarding students.
Cypress spent four years at Darlington as a boarding student and was a standout student-athlete in track and field. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he and his brother C.J. Cypress (‘07, LD ‘14) have remained connected to the school where they each served as campus leaders throughout their boarding experience.
“I’m really excited to return to Darlington as a member of the admission team,” said Cypress. “Being a four-year boarding student here had such a positive impact on my life, and having the opportunity to give back in this way means a lot to me. I look forward to being an integral part of this community, and I can’t wait to encourage others to experience all of the great things Darlington has to offer.”
Cypress holds a B.A. in International Studies and Spanish from Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he was a recipient of an academic and track and field scholarship. A highlight of his collegiate experience was when he served as a teacher's assistant in at Academia Latinoamericana de Española, a Spanish-speaking preschool in Cusco, Peru.
While in college, Cypress served as a writing tutor in the Queens Center for Student Success, advising undergraduate and graduate students with developing better habits and techniques of writing. He also served as lead university fundraiser for the school, where he worked with the Advancement Office on their annual fundraising initiatives.
Cypress is relocating to Darlington from Charlotte, North Carolina, where he served as a customer service representative for AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company.
