Senior Maddie Knight was honored as a 2019 Rome Noon Optimist Club Fernando Guzman-Ambriz Life Hero at the Student of the Year Banquet on April 26.

Knight is a boarding student from Gray, Georgia. She is a prefect and house manager in Regester House, where she assists the head of house with all activities in the dorm. Knight transferred to Darlington during her junior year and immediately began serving the Darlington Community as a volunteer coach for the middle school softball team and as volunteer yoga instructor for the Upper School crew team. She also serves the school as an Admission Tiger Rep, a select group of student liaisons who assist with campus tours and open house events. She also manages all of Darlington’s blood drives and coordinates donation efforts with the Student Life Office.

Knight’s service activities extend across the state and globe. She was selected for a leadership expedition trip to Nepal in the summer of 2019 with No Barriers, a non-profit organization that works with adults and children with disabilities. She routinely gives of her time to Daybreak USA, a program in Macon, Georgia, that gives homeless people in the area a place to go during the day while also providing services that lead them to a better standard of living. She is also an accomplished partner with the American Red Cross as a Gold Standard Member Donor.

Knight will be attending Louisiana State University in the fall and is the daughter of Katie Hammond of Gray, Georgia.
