Each fall we welcome a few new faces to the Darlington Community and we're thrilled to introduce you to Karen Calvert, head of Thornwood House.
Karen holds an A.A. from Spartanburg Community College and has spent the last 18 years working for Wells Fargo. She recently served as vice president and implementation consultant, working with project managers to establish implementation strategy, methods, and plans for strategic initiatives that impact multiple systems, workflows, or products. Calvert has also served as a Girl Scout leader, volunteered with her church youth group, and chaperoned mission trips.
Let's meet Karen!
Where did you grow up?
Tell us a little about your family…
I am married to Shane Calvert, assistant director of the Darlington School Soccer Academy. We have two daughters: Laura (22) who just graduated from College of Charleston and Lilli (13) who lives in Charlotte.
Why did you choose to come to Darlington?
The people. Every day I get to come to work and spend my time with people I consider friends, not just coworkers.
What music is playing in your car?
Classic rock or country.
My favorite movie is…
“The Blind Side”
My favorite trip was…
Shane and I spent a week in St. Martin this past summer. I'd retire there if I could.
If I could travel anywhere it would be…
E-book or hardcover?
E-book if I am traveling; Hardcover if I am at home.
Beach or mountains?
The last book I read for fun was…
“The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood
The best advice I ever received was…
Listen to others that have differing opinions with an open mind. You never know what you might learn.
Cats or dogs?
If you know me at all... DOGS!
When I want to crush karaoke, my song is…
You will never ever ever see me doing karaoke!
My favorite saying is…
Quality over quantity.
