The Purple Tie Committee of Darlington School is pleased to announce that The Purple Tie Affair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Johnson Field House.
The Purple Tie Affair is a casual evening event, featuring dinner, a full bar, live and silent auctions, various raffle prizes, a reverse raffle, and live entertainment.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Darlington’s parent organizations: Pre-K to 8 and Upper School Tiger PRIDE, the Fine Arts Booster Club, and the Athletic Booster Club.
"The Purple Tie Affair is a wonderful way to kick off the year,” said Brent Bell, head of school. “What I love is that this is a uniquely Darlington event that celebrates our community in so many ways. And, it is always fun to set a new fundraising record for the event! The money raised that evening enhances the experience of our students and faculty throughout the school year."
During the live auction portion of the evening, parents will have the opportunity to "raise their paddles" in financial support of a new campus-wide safety and security initiative, the IDenticard Card Access System.
“Security of buildings is key on an open campus like Darlington,” said Bell. “A card access system will improve the efficiency and utilization of security as doors will no longer have to be manually locked and unlocked morning and night by security personnel. This type of system will allow us to grant access based upon each cardholder, and we will be able to monitor who is accessing what building and when. One of the most beneficial features will be the ability to lock down buildings in an instant if needed.”
The Parent Council, comprised of the president and vice president of each parent organization, have approved an allocation of $56,000 towards the purchase of this system. The total cost of the system will be $157,000 and will benefit our entire student body, Pre-K to 12, day and boarding.
