Darlington School is pleased to announce that Science Department Chairman Owen Kinney will be the keynote speaker at the Baccalaureate Service on May 12, and WSB-TV news anchor Justin Farmer ('87) will address the Class of 2017 at Commencement on May 13.

Kinney was selected by the graduating class as the Baccalaureate speaker. He has taught Environmental Science, Robotics and Zoology at the Upper School since 1999. He holds a B.S. in Biology from Berry College and an M.S. in Ecology from the University of Georgia. During his tenure at Darlington, Kinney has been recognized with several teaching honors, including the Beachum, Awsumb, and Betts Master Teacher Awards. He was also named a Toyota International Teacher in 2006, and in 2010 he received a Fulbright Award to study Education for Sustainable Development in Japanese schools. He and his wife, Rebekah, are the parents of current students Ian ('17), Elliot ('19) and Noah ('23).

Farmer is the main evening anchor for Atlanta’s ABC station, WSB-TV. He was born and raised in Atlanta. After attending Darlington, where he competed in golf and track, he graduated from Boston College with a degree in political science. Farmer has been in broadcasting since 1992, having worked in places such as Dallas, Texas, Denver, Colo., and West Palm Beach, Fla. He often moderates political debates and works on special assignments that have included a one-on-one in the White House with former President Barack Obama, visiting Cuba with Georgia’s governor, and touring the Panama Canal expansion and revealing how it will affect Georgia’s economy. In recent years, Farmer has spoken at Darlington's Career Day and emceed the school's Second Century Campaign Gala Celebration in Atlanta. He and his wife have three children.
