Coca-Cola Connections With Daniel Morris (’16)

With the exciting arrival of the Millennium Gate Museum exhibit: The Games: Ancient Olympia to Atlanta to Rio to McCallie-Kennedy Library, Melinda Holmes, Kim Tunnell, and I wanted to reach out and make another Darlington community connection to the exhibit. We enlisted new alum, Daniel Morris ('16) and his pride and joy, the Cedartown Museum of Coca Cola Memorabilia.  After experiencing a successful grand opening last summer, he agreed to lend and display a piece of his extensive collection to complement the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games section of the Millennium exhibit.

Daniel carefully selected Olympic-affiliated artifacts such as many beautifully blue and green-tinted bottles from the 20s and 30s hailing from the Cedartown bottling plant, many of which would have been sold at Olympic events.

There are also some 1996 Coca Cola Olympic collectible pins and limited edition Coca-Cola memorabilia from that memorable Olympic Games.

The inviting display resides in the display case in the main entrance lobby of the library.

Being able to help orchestrate the arrival and setup of both these collections has allowed me the rare opportunity of physically holding many pieces of lauded history in my hands. We were grateful for this opportunity to welcome Daniel and hope that his museum continues to flourish. Perhaps in a few years he will want to house a traveling exhibit in the same library in which he spent four years as a student!

Admission to the exhibition is free and open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. through March 3. Groups interested in scheduling tours of the exhibition may contact Melinda Holmes at meholmes@darlingtonschool.org or by calling 706-236-0465.
