Defining Our Sense of Taste

Preston Jacobs | November 8, 2016 | 200 views

On Monday Nov. 7, Mr. Jacobs' psychology classes discussed the sensory interaction between smell and taste. After a short chat, they went to the dining hall, where FLIK had very generously prepared a lesson on the subject for us.

Dining Services Director Jeff Beard started with a short Q&A on different tastes. Discussing the different tastes and how they change when you lose the ability to smell was very enlightening.

Going over why we hold our nose when there is a "gross" food we just can't stand became very apparent when eating a range of foods from oyster mushrooms to soy sauce to blue cheese.

The range of food was as diverse as the preferences of the tastes of the class. Almost every food that was tried was someone's favorite and some else's least favorite.
