Mary Margaret Wright ('16) has been honored as Region 1’s 2016 PAGE STAR Student. The senior was chosen from a group of 24 students from Northwest Georgia to move on to the state level.

Darlington history teacher Kelly McDurmon will advance with Wright as her STAR Teacher to the final level of the competition in Atlanta on April 18.

Wright and McDurmon made it to the region level after being named the competition's honorees for the Rome City school district.

The Rome native has been accepted to the University of Georgia and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and plans to major in neuroscience and biomedical engineering.

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia Department of Education. The program recognizes Georgia seniors who have scored the highest on the SAT during a single-day attempt and are in the top 10% of their class based on grade point average.
