1.     The McCallie-Kennedy Upper School Library has subscribed to (that means paid for) over 20 different databases and e-resources that Darlington students can use for free.

2.     That’s free research on thousands of different topics, leading to thousands of popular and academic journals, magazines, and online publications…which leads to *millions* of articles.

3.     If you use the right database, you can access hard-to-find primary sources from any time period—Egyptian texts from 2600 B.C.E., American newspaper articles from the 1740s, and even prehistoric art—all accompanied by correct citations.

4.     For when you need those resources in printed form, several of our databases are completely dedicated to full-text e-books—that’s over 250,000 e-books you can access for FREE that you can’t find in Google Books or Google Scholar.

5.     Any e-books or online content you find in databases can be saved on your computer, or in a folder on the database—you only need to be signed in as a Darlington web user.

6.     A library is the original sharing economy. Using these resources (on our website!) is meant to make your researching EASIER. It is actually more difficult to scroll through Google results pages, trying to figure out which one to use.

7.     You can access any of these resources anywhere—at your house, dorm, classroom, at Panera, or anywhere that has Internet—super convenient!

8.     Using the databases we subscribe to ensures that the kind of information you find is scholarly, credible, and worth using in your paper or project. Remember—all information found online was not created equally.

9.     Some of our databases are devoted specifically to giving you access to pictures, drawings, art, videos, and music that you can use without fear of violating copyright laws AND they come with correct citations.

10.  And lastly…..did we mention all of this is FREE?

And don’t worry, when you’re looking at a staggering amount of amazing resources, remember that the trained librarians can help you navigate through that flood of information!
