Track & Field defeats Walker and North Cobb Christian

The Darlington boys' and girls' track & field teams both defeated North Cobb Christian and Walker in a home meet on Wednesday. On the boys' side, Darlington scored 120, North Cobb Christian 98, and Walker 25. For the girls, Darlington had 100 points to Walker's 64 and North Cobb Christian's 51. Both are Region opponents.

The boys' team was led by Alex Cox, Chandler Duggan, and Chris Edwards, who each won two events. Alex ran a 2:05.06 to win the 800 meters and pole vaulted 11 feet, 6 inches. Chandler tripled-jumped a new personal best of 41 feet, 7 inches and ran a 54.38 in the 400 meters. Chris won both hurdle events with a time of 20.37 in the 110 meters and a personal best of 46.76 in the 300 meters.

Also placing first for the boys were Avery Cypress (4:50.25, personal best in the 1600 meters), Spencer Fields (10:29.38, personal best in the 3200 meters), and Justin Brand (5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump). The boys' 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays also won. 

For the girls, Lauren Hooper, EJ Newbern, and Anna Loyd all had first-place finishes. Lauren won the 3200 (12:49.80), EJ won the pole vault (8 feet), and Anna won both the long jump (14 feet 3 inches) and the triple jump (28 feet, 10 inches).

The track & field team is at the mid-point in their season as they prepare for larger and more important meets. Their next competition is the Marietta Friday Night Lights Invitational on April 5, which will feature 30 of the best teams in Georgia.
