Qualifications

  • Willingness to model the distinct mission of Darlington School

  • Undergraduate degree in art education and/or acceptable transcript that demonstrates competency in field

  • Broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in art curriculum and instruction

  • Genuine appreciation and passion for teaching children and a desire to work with all types of learners

  • Prior teaching experience preferred

  • Positive and contributing member of the professional community

  • Extraordinary communication and presentation skills

  • A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment

  • Comfortable with change; exhibits flexibility

 

Responsibilities

  • Prepares age-appropriate lessons and activities for a variety of visual art classes for grades Pre-K to 8

  • Demonstrates mastery of related subject matter, instructional skills, and resource materials

  • Contribute to the extracurricular life of the school

  • Convey a love of teaching students and art

  • Promote a supportive and positive classroom and school environment

  • Prepare and implement student art exhibits throughout the year

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty

  • Collaborates with members of fine arts department, classroom, and enrichment teachers

  • Demonstrates the skill of using the SmartBoard and implementing technology into the art classroom

  • Manage budget and maintain an art supply inventory

  • Attends faculty meetings, planning meetings, parent conferences, etc.

  • Supervises students in and out of the classroom

  • Assists with special events as related to grade levels, fine arts, division and One School student experiences

  • Assists with the morning and afternoon carline duty

  • Participate in NAEA and educational art events as appropriate for individual students and groups of students in coordination with the school calendar
